Q: Why the font is so small ?
A: The font size is easily increased by combination "Ctrl +" and decreased by "Ctrl -", (in Mozilla Firefox browser), or going to browser's menu and choosing the font size there.
Q: Why your site looks so primitive ? where are logos, pictures, and other decorations ?
A: First and principal reason for this is that we intentionally sacrificed the decorations for the speed of browsing. We chose the two-color scheme because of that. The logo will appear when we devise one.
Q: The Earth is round, and you show the publication time for the articles. What is the time zone ?
A: The time is of Moscow. Because the project is made in Russia.
Q: Why so few articles in your sections ?
A: Our web-site is divided in two. The first part is "active" and contains only recent publications, which can be edited, commented and removed. The second part cannot be changed : the older articles move to Archive and cannot be edited or commented. You can access the archive by clicking on its web-link.
Q: Why Search function shows results only until certain date ?
A: Because this function works only for "active" part of our site. If you look for a given keyword in recent events, then you are in the right place. The search results are shown as a list of headings and long headings.
Q: Where are the older articles ?
A: They are all in the Archive. The peculiarity of the archive storage is that you cannot see the whole list of the articles. You should first choose the criteria of your interest (articles' topic, section, keywords, dates etc.)
Q: How can I see the whole list of articles in the Archive ?
A: You cannot do it. Try to formulate your query first, by filling the suggested form on the "Archive" web-page. Otherwise you will be lost in the unsystematic information. We can only assure you that everything that went to the archive, remains there. The results of your search are shown as a list of headings and long headings.
Q: These are not your articles ! Where do you show the original source for them ?
A: The reference (direct web-link) to the original article is located under the "Source" field in the heading of the article. Click there and you will open the original in a separate window.
Q: What are you "Hot News" ? They seem outdated.
A: The 'hotness' of the news is that it is discussed. The choice of the hot news is done manually be the editors and moderators, so you can't avoid some bias.
Q: What does it mean, "All Topics" ? How can I use it ?
A: This filter allows you to leave on the web-page only those articles, which are relevant to a given topic. When you move to another section (News, Reports, Commentaries, Analysis), your choice of the topic is remembered. The exception is when you switch to another language, because the topics in English and Russian are not strictly coinciding. The starting page of WaP will get this feature of filtering by topic soon (hopefully). The number and names of the topics can change, depending on the world events. A full list of all topics can be seen in the archive.
Q: Why changing the language leads to the main page of the site ?
A: Because of the differences in the publications on both sides of WaP. We cannot provide exact translations of articles and maintain the same content in two languages. Instead we try to keep the similar names of the topics, and the general mood of publications. We try to make translations, when we can.
Q: How can I see the full-size images in the Galleries ?
A: Click your mouse on the small image, the full-size image will appear in the same window.
Q: Why don't you have a forum ?
A: Because there is a possibility to leave your comment under any article.
Q: How can I leave a comment ?
A: You should register at the site. The form to type the comment is at the bottom of every article and can be seen only by registered visitors.
Q: I have registered, but I cannot login.
A: You should provide the working e-mail address during your registration. After that you receive the confirmation of your registration and a web-link for its activation. After you activate your account (screen name), you can enjoy the rights of registered user.
Q: I am still waiting for the e-mail with confirmation !
A: The time of sending e-mail and receiving it at your mailbox depends on the capability of mail servers at this particular moment. Usually it takes several minutes. In worst cases it might take hours. If you wait for too long, you can use the "Contacts" page, and explain your problem to the site administrator. But please remember to provide your e-mail address there, so that we might contact you.
Q: I changed my e-mail address, how can I change this information on the site ?
A: The voluntary change of your e-mail address in our records is prohibited, and you should contact the site administration. You can do it either on the "Contacts" page, or by the system of personal messages on the site.
Q: It seems that someone got access to my account. How can I change my password ?
A: You can change your password, by using the button "My profile". Your password is encrypted and not available to site administration. If you have serious problems with your login, contact administrators either on Contacts page, or by personal message.
Q: Who will see my personal info ? Should I provide it ?
A: Your personal details can be seen by any _registered_ user when looking at your profile. It is your choice to provide it or not. You can change it at any time.
Q: I read my e-mail much more often than your site. May I receive notifications by e-mail ?
A: Yes you can order the notification by e-mail, about the new articles in a given section or topic. It is done on the "My profile" page. Be careful, because the notifications are not grouped together, and will be sent to your mailbox by the principle "one article = one e-mail". Every e-mail will contain the title, author, nickname of submitting person, long title, and the web link to the article. On the "My profile" page you also will see a full list of ordered notifications with a possibility to cancel each one of them. If you find this form of notification inconvenient and close to spamming, please consider the option of RSS feed on our site.
Q: What is the "Subscribe" button under the heading of the article ?
A: If you are interested in the comments under this article and you would like to see what follows, then "subscribe" to notifications about the appearance of new comments. The notification will contain the title of the article, web link to it, the author of the comment and the comment itself. Please note, that after returning to this article, your notification request is cancelled automatically. If you want to receive notifications further, then subscribe again.
Q: My comment has not appeared under the article. Is your forum pre-moderated ?
A: Our forum is post-moderated. When your comment has not appeared, it is most probably because you have used a prohibited symbol or command there. The reason might be also a too long phrase, which was written without spaces (a web-link, for example). You can re-post your message, if you save it before clicking the "Submit" button. This is a recommended option.
Q: I sent a comment and saw that there is a lot of errors there...
A: No problem. Use the "Edit" button. The slogan is 'I am my own moderator'.
Q: What is a personal message ?
A: This is a communication service for the registered users on the site. You can tell your e-mail to another person, not showing it to everybody, simply say hello, or discuss something privately.
Q: Where I can see that I got a personal message ?
A: In the user's menu, on the right, you see the word "Messages". The first number stands for new messages, the second number is the total number of messages in your box. Click there to read them and send your own.
Q: You publish total crap. I have much better articles and images at hand !
A: Then send them to us ! You have an option "Submit an article", the editorial tools are the same as for comments. You may use the keys : Bold, Italic, Underline, Indent, Add a web-link, Remove web-link, Center the text, Undo. Some of you know how to write in color, most advanced of you may look at the html code of your article and edit it. You can control the process by clicking on "Preview" button. When you are satisfied, click "Submit". The images can be uploaded via "Submit an image" form.
Q: I have sent you an article and it has not appeared !
A: Not so fast. Unlike comments, the articles are due to pre-moderation, and they will appear on the site after the approval of moderator. It is also possible that you used the prohibited symbols or commands in your article. You can ask what happened either via "Contacts" form, or by a personal message.
Q: How can I insert images, web-links, and tables into my article ?
A: Let us take a closer look at the buttons at the bottom of the "submit" page. We will see options "Insert image", "Insert link", "Insert a table". If the images or tables are already at the web-page which you want to use, do not worry. Just copy it and paste into another window, and this fragment will be reproduced together with text, images and tables.
Q: I typed the text in the text processor, everything looks so smart, headings, tables and things... Can I keep this formatting when publishing on your site ?
A: Yes you can, it is one of the pleasant things with our editing tools. You simply copy and paste it. Click on Preview to verify it.
Q: I uploaded many images to the site, and where are they ?
A: They wait for the approval of the moderator, similar to articles. The moderator will make them visible for all. If you wait long enough and nothing happens, you can inform the administrator either via "Contacts" form, or by a personal message.
Q: I think that a lot of things on your site could be done better.
A: Yes, indeed. Coming to perfection is both adorable and never-ending. We will be glad to hear your comments, ideas and have your little help. The page "Contacts" is entirely for you. And do not forget to provide your e-mail address there, so that we might contact you.
